Ten hits not enough for DL in loss to W-DC
Despite ringing up 10 hits in their Hi-10 League road match-up against host Wadena-Deer Creek Sunday, the Detroit Lakes Angels only scored once in a 6-1 loss to the Shockers.
Three errors hindered DL’s progress through the game, as W-DC scored three runs in each the sixth and eighth innings.
Bryan Buhr led the way by going 3-4, while each of Doug Dickey and Phil Kirchner had two hits apiece.
Brock Johnson took the loss after throwing seven innings and allowing three runs, all earned, while Mark Gulseth gave up three runs, one earned in his one inning of work.
The Angels (9-10) also lost to Midway 11-6 Saturday after committing six errors.
Chris Gilson went 4-5, while Phil Kirchner had a two-run homer in the first inning. Doug Dickey and Derek Zitzow each had two hits.
Buhr took the loss in relief after pitching four innings and allowing nine runs, but only four earned. Trevor Tappe started and went four innings, allowing three hits and two runs.
DL took a 9-3 victory over Fargo last Wednesday, as leadoff hitter Connor McLeod went 4-5 with three RBIs. Each of Tappe, Kirk McLeod and Buhr had two hits, as the Angels recorded a total of 17 hits.
Johnson took the win on the mound, with Zitzow, Tappe, Buhr and Dickey each throwing in relief.
The Angels will host their annual Fourth of July game against Frazee at 7 p.m. at Washington Ballpark, with the fireworks show after.
The Angels will host Vergas Friday at Washington Ballpark, starting at 7:30 p.m. and will have the Audubon Zephyers in town Saturday for a doubleheader, starting at 1:30 p.m. and the second game approximately at 4:30 p.m.
They close out the regular season hosting Henning July 10.
