Thank you for giving to the United Way
I've been a volunteer and for the last 17 years the Executive Director of the United Way of Becker County. To say I'm proud of and eternally grateful for the support the people of this county give the United Way is an understatement. I've seen how people coming together in a focused, community-oriented effort can improve individual lives and the communities in which we live.
I pause to reflect on the generosity and kindness shown to the United Way and our community. Efforts like the Detroit Lakes High School Care Week. Students put in countless hours to raise funds to help provide food to hungry kids in Becker County. They presented United Way with $5,000 to help fund the Food for Thought Backpack program and the Becker County Food Pantry. Employee groups holding internal fundraisers and giving their time and dollars to United Way to distribute to our 40 plus partner programs. Businesses dipping into their very tight budgets providing funds for much needed services. People opening their wallets during these tough economic times, to provide food, heat and shelter to those less fortunate via United Way programs. Countless volunteer hours given to assist others. You are the United Way.
Thank you always seems so inadequate, but let me say it with the backing of all the people whose lives you have touched. Becker County is truly blessed with people who give of their time, their talents and share their blessings on a regular basis. To everyone who helped put smile a childs face, bring a tear to struggling parents eyes, or warmed the heart of a lonely senior citizen, United Way, on behalf of the community, wants you to know that you are appreciated! If I said thank you a million times, it would still not be enough.
Many blessings to you this happy holiday season.
