Thanks for successful ‘Mitten Tree Project’
With ice still on the lake and the need for “warm hands” lasting longer than usual, the Damien Society wishes to thank the generous people of our entire community for another successful “Mitten Tree Project” this winter. The trees once again overflowed with mittens, hats, and scarves from throughout our region and we appreciate all of you who continue to make “giving” a part of your traditions.
We collected close to 800 items from the trees and distributed them to children and adults in need at schools throughout our area, the Boys and Girls Club, Mahube Center, Lakes Crisis Center, The Refuge, Anishinabe, Circle of Life — White Earth and the Community Education Program.
We wish to thank especially the Detroit Lakes Newspapers, KDLM Radio, Norby’s Department Store and Channels 3 and 14 for the promotion of this project. The following businesses also hosted trees for the donations to be made: Wells Fargo Bank, First Security Bank, Bremer Bank, Midwest Bank, American National Bank, Bell State Bank & Trust, Central Market, St. Mary’s Living Community, Lakeshirts, the Detroit Lakes Community Center, the Speak Easy, MPCA, Jack Chivers Realty, Sanford Clinic, and the Detroit Lakes Morning Rotary Club.
With your generosity, our “warm” community lasts — no matter how long the winter. Thank you. — Carla Hansen, for the Damien Society
