10,000 Lakes Festival

The sixth annual 10,000 Lakes Festival also kicks off tonight at 6 p.m., on the grounds of the Soo Pass Ranch south of Detroit Lakes, with performances by the Dark Star Orchestra, New Primitives, Rhinestone Diplomats and more.

The Flaming Lips, Wookiefoot, Slightly Stoopid, Leftover Salmon and Phil Lesh & Friends are the headliners this year, with 50 bands scheduled to perform on four stages all afternoon and evening, Thursday through Saturday. A fireworks display will close the festival at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

A one-day general admission music only ticket will set you back $54. To stay all weekend and camp, be prepared to shell out $140. For more information regarding tickets or camping permits please call the 10KLF ticket office at 1-800-493-3378, or visit the Web site at www.10klf.com.

Frazee Turkey Days

Frazee's flagship festival, Turkey Days, opens on Thursday with a kickoff party at the Frazee Event Center, starting at 5 p.m., and the Junior Miss Frazee Pageant at the Frazee-Vergas High School gymnasium starting at 7 p.m.

A unique Minnesota Sesquicentennial history presentation also gets underway at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Event Center.

The festivities continue through Sunday, with a variety of events, contests, food, pageants and parades. Some weekend events, like the Old-Time Dance for seniors (6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Event Center), are brand new, while others, like the food court -- which will be open all weekend long and feature a wider variety of food -- are being revamped.

New events will include a "Nitro-Powered" Truck and Car Demo, set for noon Saturday at the site of the annual Demolition Derby (which will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m.), and the Ottertail Inflatables Kids Fun Park, running from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday.

As always, the highlight of the event will be the Turkey Days Parade, set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Arts & Crafts in the Park

Detroit Lakes' 30th annual Arts & Crafts in the Park takes place today, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the DL City Park. About 125 booths are set up in the shade of the park's beautiful pine and oak trees. You'll find treasures of all sorts, from paintings and pottery to furniture and fabric goods, while listening to live Ecuadorian music and feasting on a range of tasty foods.
