Two quick goals in the third period erased any momentum hope for the Detroit Lakes girls' hockey team, as they fell to 3-11-1 with a 6-2 loss in Fargo South Tuesday.

South notched three unanswered goals in the third period to widen a 3-2 second-period margin over the Lakers, in a game where the shots were low at 23-19 in favor of the home team.

"It was a back and forth game, we just need to improve in the little areas," said DL head coach Dan Maloney. "I felt it was a solid game, it just got away from us in the third."

Both of DL's goals came from the second line, by junior Tiffany Iverson and junior Brita Johnson.

Assists were dished out by Hayley Maloney (two), Johnson and Ashley Friesen.

"The second line has been doing a good job defensively and now are starting to gain some more points (offensively)," Dan Maloney said.

Laker goalie Veronica Roy finished with 17 saves in the game.

Six different players scored for West Fargo (6-6), as Molly Schultz and Sadie Hayes each had a goal and an assist.

Bruins' goalie Katie Buchholz registered 17 saves in the win.

"If we could have responded with a goal early in the third period, we could have picked up some momentum," Maloney said. "But instead, they picked up the momentum.

"The shots were low for both teams, we need to have a higher scoring percentage," he added.

The Lakers will travel to Alexandria (6-6-1) for a big section game Saturday.

The Cardinals defeated DL 7-2 Nov. 19, inside Kent Freeman Arena.

"I feel we are almost there, but we need to be more consistent and have that breakout game against a good team like Alexandria," Maloney said.
