Thomas Morris Hill, 74, Nevis, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, in the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

Tom was born on April 19, 1934, in Pierre, S.D., to Arthur and Mary Hill. As a small boy, he moved with his family to the Grand Rapids area. It was there he received his public school education and attended the Grand Rap-ids Public High School. As a young man of 17, Tom joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Gunners Mate on a naval destroyer. In 1954, he received his honorable dis-charge and returned to Minnesota. On July 23, 1954, Tom was united in marriage to Adeline Marion Smith in Grand Rapids. This union was blessed with three children. The young couple made their home in Grand Rapids for a number of years. Except for a time in Tom's life when he worked in the iron ore mines of Northern Minnesota, he spent the majority of his working career as a professional over the road truck driver. In 1973, Tom and Adeline moved to Detroit Lakes, where they made their home until 1981, when they moved to the Park Rapids-Nevis area. Tom drove truck for the Cenex Fertilizer plant in Park Rapids for a number of years and later worked as an owner-operator until his retirement. During their retirement years, he and Ade-line enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with their RV. Tom loved the out-of-doors, especially when he could be hunting, fishing, camping, boating or golfing with his family. He enjoyed working the land and growing plants and vegetables. Each spring, he looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden, which he nurtured into fruitful abundance to share with his family and friends. He loved to motorcycle and snowmobile in his younger days. Tom enjoyed the woods and as a young man spent much of his time logging and learning the art of tracking which complimented his hunting skills during his entire life. He and Adeline attended the Faith Baptist Church of Park Rap-ids. Above all, Tom devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart.
