Known for their 2010 platinum single, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not,” Thompson Square consists of husband-and-wife country duo Shawna and Keifer Thompson, who combine classic rock, country, and singer/songwriter strands into a sharp, pleasant country/pop mix.

Shawna Thompson grew up in Chatom, Alabama, listening to her father strum country classics on his guitar, while Keifer Thompson was raised in Miami, Oklahoma, appreciating musicians such as Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty.  Shawna and Keifer relocated to Nashville the same week, and met at a singing competition a few days later – and by all accounts, it was love at first sight. Both pursued solo careers in Nashville, though, for several years before deciding to go as a duo.

Thompson Square’s cutting-edge style created a buzz, and they signed with Stoney Creek Records early in 2010, and were soon working on a debut album.  An initial single, “Let’s Fight,” was released by the label in June of 2010, followed by a second single, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not,” a month later in July. Things have happened very quickly since then: Thompson Square earned three fan-voted American Country Awards for Single of the Year by a Group, Single of the Year by a New Artist and Music Video of the Year by a New Artist.

“Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” also earned two Grammy nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/ Group Performance of the Year as well as an American Music Award Nomination for “New Artist of the Year.”  One month later, Thompson Square dethroned Sugarland to become the 2012 Academy of Country Music’s “Vocal Duo of the Year,” making Thompson Square the first new duo to win the award in 20 years. Two months after that, Thompson Square’s follow-up smash, “I Got You,” earned the duo a fan-voted 2012 CMT Music Award for “Duo Video of the Year.”

Now, with the much-anticipated release of, “If I Didn’t Have You,” the duo’s lead single from its upcoming sophomore album, Thompson Square is nominated for two of the most coveted CMA Awards – New Artist of the Year and Duo of the Year.
