Three Hornets heading to state
There will be a trio of Frazee Hornets competing in the Class 1A state track and field meet Friday and Saturday at Hamline University.
Junior Forrest Jackson was able to overcome a heel injury and a sub-par 100-meter dash to finish second in the 200 dash with a time of 23.38, behind Morris' Lincoln Arnold's 23.25.
Jackson had to scratch from the long jump due to his heel, while a bronze in third with a time of 11.93 prevented a state berth in the 100 dash.
"Forrest was disappointed with his 100 dash, but he made a nice comeback with his 200 to qualify for state," said Frazee head boys' coach Brian Tangen.
Jackson will be making his fourth trip to state, but his first as an individual after running on three state relay teams.
Senior Hannah Daggett will be making her third state appearance in the high jump, after she took the Section 6-1A crown at Minnesota State University Moorhead Thursday.
Daggett marked a meet-best 5-04 to clinch the title.
Eighth grader Ellie Bachmann will be making her state debut after running a 2:25.96 in the 800 event, which was good for second.
For the boys' team, the section finals were a good learning experience.
"I'm excited these young kids got the opportunity to gain experience," Tangen said. "It was a good experience overall for them."
Section 6-1A meet at Minnesota State University Moorhead, Thursday, June 3.
