Trail King planning two-month shutdown at West Fargo plant
WEST FARGO - Trail King Industries Inc. is temporarily closing its West Fargo semitrailer production plant from June 8 to Aug. 3, due to the declining economy.
The company announced Tuesday that it will temporarily consolidate production operations at its plant in Mitchell, S.D.
"This temporary action is in response to the ongoing economic conditions and allows Trail King to better balance its production capacity with current demand," said a news release issued by the company.
"Trail King will maintain sufficient capacity to meet customer needs and market demand," said Carol P. Lowe, company president.
In March, 36 employees were laid off at the West Fargo Trail King plant.
That left 122 employees working at the plant, said manager John Rust.
A year earlier, the plant employed 185 at its new 160,000-square-foot West Fargo production facility.
Another plant in Brookville, Pa., will also shut down temporarily from June 8 to Sept. 14.
Both plants will continue to provide normal parts and maintenance services during the shutdown, the company said.
Rust was unavailable for comment on Tuesday.
