Trinity hosts Fliss calligraphy exhibit
During the month of October, the Music & Arts program at Trinity Lutheran Church is holding an exhibition of the calligraphy of Detroit Lakes artist, Doug Fliss.
From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays, (8 to 11:30 a.m. on Sundays), his work is displayed throughout the Fellowship Room and hallways of the church. It is free and open to the public.
Fliss's calligraphy is inspired by personal experience, thoughts from friends and passages from bible verses. The works on display are wonderfully colored and deeply layered with meaning. There is a tremendous variety in the style of calligraphy he uses.
As you will find in the in the calligraphy displayed, Fliss pursues and integrates his love of color, typography and design in his art work.
He also does this in his work with in other art mediums such as stained glass, mosaic tile, work and textiles.
Fliss is a graduate of Studio Arts, Concordia College and of Commercial Art, Minnesota State Technical College. He has taught calligraphy in many adult education classes and is a guest speaker in the area's colleges and universities.
Come see the exhibit. Trinity Lutheran Church is located in Detroit Lakes at 1401 Madison Ave., up on the hill east of the high school.
Fliss's work may be purchased, and there is a price list available at the church.
