Twin Cities commuter trains hit car in Elk River area

ELK RIVER, Minn. – Two Twin Cities commuter trains collided with a vehicle Tuesday afternoon, the second day in a row a train had hit a car in the Elk River area.

Metro Transit said on its website that no injuries were reported.

Both the northbound and southbound Northstar trains struck a vehicle north of Elk River on the northwest edge of the metro area.

Minnesota State Patrol and Sherburne County were on the scene, Metro Transit said.

The Northstar Line offers service between Big Lake and downtown Minneapolis. It connects to bus service to St. Cloud.

On Monday, an abandoned car was struck by the northbound Northstar in Elk River. No injuries were reported.
