Two candidate forums set for Frazee Schools
The Lakes Area League of Women Voters will host two Frazee-Vergas School Board Candidate Forums before the Aug. 10 primary election.
The first will be held on Thursday, July 15, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Frazee Events Center.
A second forum will be held on Sunday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Frazee School
The candidates will answer questions from the public during this moderated event, following the non-partisan, unbiased and impartial format established by the Minnesota League of Women Voters.
Experienced League of Women Voters moderators from the Lakes Area League will serve as moderators.
All 11 candidates -- Carey Alger, Matt Bauer, Brenda Como, Rick Dekarske, Ken Fett, Mary Lepisto, Kevin Litzau, Jim Nelson, Don Thorp, Chris Wacker and Richard Ziegler -- have been invited to participate.
The purpose of the Candidate Forum is to give the Frazee-Vergas voters an opportunity to hear the candidates discuss the issues of importance to them in this election.
The field of candidates for the four open positions on the School Board will be narrowed to the top eight vote-getters in the Aug. 10 primary.
The new School Board members will be determined on Tuesday, November 2.
These events are free and open to the public.
Voters attending the forum have two opportunities to submit questions to the candidates.
Written questions will be accepted throughout the forum. The League also has an email for voters to submit questions in advance. That email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
By League of Women Voter policy, the identity of the person asking the question is confidential. Any questions submitted via email will remain confidential with all identifying information removed before the event.
The email option for submitting questions creates an opportunity for voters to ask questions in a more private manner because it guarantees anonymity.
During the forum, candidates will deliver a 2-minute opening statement. Because of the large number of candidates, each candidate will have 1 1/2 minutes to answer each question posed by the moderator.
The Lakes Area League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Membership is open to all citizens. Membership information will also be available at the Candidate Forum
