The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center will present two free concerts Sunday, July 26, starting with Judith Siirila at 3 p.m. Judi is a native of New York Mills and enjoys a successful career as singer of classical music in California. She will present a concert of old hymns and gospel songs. Then, at 7:30 p.m., singer-songwriter Elisa Korenne performs a preview concert of her latest song cycle, "The Tenth Muse." Frazee Turkey Days concludes today with a classic car show at 10 a.m., turkey luncheon at 11 a.m., pet and doll parade at 1:15 p.m. and the Turkey Days Parade at 2 p.m. There will be pie and ice cream served at the Frazee Event Center following the parade, and live music at the Frazee VFW from 6 to 10 p.m., featuring the band Destiny. Terry Shoptaugh returns to the ITOW Veterans Museum for an 8 p.m. lecture and Power Point presentation about the National Guard on Monday, July 27. Shoptaugh, a professor of history and American studies at Minnesota State University, Moorhead, is an historian, archivist and award-winning writer. His talk will conclude the ITOW Veterans Museum's Spring-Summer Lectures and Reeenactment Series. A new series will begin in September. The ITOW Veterans Museum is located at 805 West Main, Perham. The Tuesdays in the Park summer concert series continues this week with a live performance by Crashing Down July 28 at 7 p.m. in the DL City Park Bandshell. It is a free show, and open to the public. Upcoming performances include Purple Pan Steel Drum Band, Aug. 4; Ulen Community Band, Aug. 11; Doc & the Scrubs, Aug. 18; and the Lakes Area Community Concert Band, Aug. 25. The 118th Annual Becker County Fair gets underway Wednesday, July 29 at the county fairgrounds in Detroit Lakes, continuing through Saturday, Aug. 1. Wednesday is Entry Day, Thursday is Senior Day, Friday is Kids Day and Saturday is Family Day. Highlights include the Miss and Miss Teen Becker County Fair Pageant on Wednesday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m.; the crowning of the new Becker County Outstanding Senior Citizens on Thursday, July 30 at 1:15 p.m.; the Demolition Derby on Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m.; and the 4-H Horse Fun Show on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 1 p.m. There will also be 4-H judging, free exhibits and live entertainment going on throughout the event.

Local artist Becky Hulbert is the featured artist through the month of July at Flowers by Val, on Washington Avenue, DL. Her acrylic painting artwork includes a variety of subjects and techniques featuring landscapes and still life, to her folk art style including the One Stroke Method of painting.

Jasper's Theater performs a great family entertainment show filled with music, magic and comedy every Thursday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. through Aug. 22. The traveling exhibit, "Freedom: A History of US," opened this month at the ITOW Veterans Museum in Perham. The exhibit, which has been developed by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of New York, documents and illustrates critical figures and events in U.S. history while tracing the evolving concept of freedom from its founding. The exhibit will be on display through July 31. The ITOW Veterans Museum is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students, and free for all Armed Forces veterans. Like cicadas in August, musicians will once again be all abuzz at the Hoot Owl Resort in Waubun this month, as the Borderline Philharmonic annual concert is set for Friday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. The free concert of classical orchestral works takes place in the resort's upstairs Concert Loft.
