Two injured when car slams into tree in Moorhead
MOORHEAD - Alcohol, excessive speed and a lack of seat belts were contributing factors in a one-vehicle accident that sent two men to the hospital this morning, Moorhead police said.
Richard Burns Jr., 24, was southbound on the 700 block of Eighth Street South just before 7 a.m. when he apparently hit the curb and lost control and the vehicle slammed into a tree, Sgt. Tory Jacobson and Lt. Joel Scharf said. Officers arriving at the scene found Blake Nelson, the 22-year-old passenger, partially ejected through the windshield, Scharf said.
Nelson, Moorhead, and Burns, Underwood, Minn., were taken to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo by ambulance. Both are still hospitalized, Scharf said in a news release issued about 1:30 p.m. today.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
