Two men arrested in connection to burning cross found in Beltrami County yard
Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection to a burning cross left in a Northern Township, Minn., yard, the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office reported.
Deputies were called to the residence at 12:40 a.m. May 25. The victim told authorities they were home alone at the time and spotted a single individual fleeing on foot from the area of a burning cross.
The victim had doused the flames before authorities arrived, according to the sheriff's office, and deputies found a racist message and other racist artifacts on the cross.
Derek Daniel Barnes, 20, and Ryan Fairbanks, 19, both of Bemidji, were arrested Wednesday in connection to the incident.
They are being held at the Beltrami County jail under suspicion of terroristic threats and use of explosive/incendiary devices. The case remains under investigation, and the investigation has been forwarded to the Beltrami County Attorney's Office for review and possible charges.
