Two summer music video, engineering camps at Staples
Two day camps are scheduled for the Staples campus of Central Lakes College this summer.
The first is Music Video Camp June 16-29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for students in grades 10-12.
The second is Summer Engineering and Manufacturing Camp (SEaM) July 7-11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for grades seven through 12. It is sponsored by the Center for Excellence at Bemidji State University and the Staples campus of Central Lakes College.
Music Video Camp offers the participant a chance to create a professional-looking music video in just five days. Only 20 spots are available.
Students will work in groups of four to select a song. They will write a script, set up and film the shots with digital video cameras, and then use computers to produce and edit the timeline. When completed, students will author a DVD for final presentation.
To register or obtain information, call Leon Dahlvang, instructor, at (218) 894-5142 or toll-free 800-247-6836, ext. 5142, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
The SEaM camp is a five-day hands-on opportunity in electronics, motor controllers, mechanical drafting, manufacturing machining, and robotics automated systems.
On the last day of the camp, pairs of students put their creations to the test in an obstacle course of cones, ramps, and tunnels. They compete in "Robot Hockey" that is a timed event based on goals scored. There are awards in these first two events for first, second, and third place.
The main event is the "Battlebot Demolition Derby" which provides awards for first and second place teams. The students use kits to build their robots, assembling hundreds of parts under guidance from instructors.
The camp is limited to the first 36 registrants. Transportation is provided from Brainerd.
