Ulteig cutting jobs
FARGO -- Fargo-based Ulteig is cutting staff, company officials said Tuesday afternoon. The company has an office in Detroit Lakes.
But the private company isn't saying how many positions are being eliminated.
Ulteig, which provides engineering, planning and surveying services, had about 420 employees, including 140 in Fargo, according to the company.
The cuts - announced Tuesday morning to employees - are part of the financially healthy company's strategic growth plan, said Gerald Floden, president and chief executive officer.
"We're a growing, fast-moving company, and we have to look at where the markets are going," he said.
Ulteig's primary markets are building, civil, energy and land services.
"We're a pretty diverse company," Floden said. "Certain areas of our company are seeing rapid growth, but other parts are affected by the downturn in the economy, particularly the housing industry."
Ulteig continues to seek people to fill 15 positions.
"We have openings, but it takes specialized people," he said.
The company - which has offices in Fargo, Bismarck, Detroit Lakes, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls and Denver - isn't disclosing whether cuts will be made in all of its offices, said Fred Hudson, Ulteig's communications manager.
