Ulteig Engineering hires a new chief business officer

Ulteig, an engineering company with a Detroit Lakes office, has hired David Karels as Chief Business Officer.

Karels brings more than 20 years of construction and business management expertise to Ulteig.

His management experience includes operations, financial management, sales, human resources, public relations, strategic positioning and planning, and technology implementation.

He most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for Nor-Son, Inc., a role in which he was responsible for driving strategic growth and the daily business.

Prior to that, Karels was a Nor-Son Vice President and was responsible for opening and growing the Fargo branch office of the company.

Karels' construction management experience includes roles as Operations Director for Faithful & Gould in Minneapolis and management roles at both the Harris Group and Raytheon Engineers & Constructors, both located in Denver, Colo.

Karels graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from North Dakota State University.

Ulteig was founded in 1944 by Melvin Ulteig with the vision of bringing electricity to people in the rural Midwest. Today, Ulteig is a nationally accredited company, ranked number 207 in the Top 500 Engineering Design Firms in the nation by Engineering News Record and is considered among the top firms in electrical transmission and distribution services.

The company is organized into Building Services, Civil, Energy, and Land Services sectors and has offices in Bismarck, Fargo, and Grand Forks, N.D.; Detroit Lakes and Minneapolis, Minn.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Denver, Colo.; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
