'USO Show' benefit Sept. 27 in Perham to feature 'Bob Hope'
Tickets are now available for 'The USO Show' on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the ITOW Veterans Museum in Perham.
"The USO Show" is the theme of this year's annual volunteer appreciation and membership banquet, sponsored by the Friends of the History Museum of East Otter Tail County.
This nostalgic journey back in time will include popular singers and actors -- and even a special guest who looks and acts amazingly like one of the fabled performers of the original USO shows.
Elisa Korenne will be one of the featured entertainers at "The USO Show." She will perform "Hormel Girls," a tribute to JC Hormel's remarkable group of ex-military women who sold Hormel products by day and performed musicals by night.
This is a sneak preview of an exciting concert to be recorded live on Dec. 12, when Korenne will perform "Ordinarily Unsung Heroes," a concert of songs and stories created for the Minnesota Sesquicentennial.
Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., with refreshments in the lobby. Local organizations that offer programs and support for veterans will be showcased in the lobby. The dinner begins at 7 p.m. in the "Mess Hall."
The menu includes pecan crusted chicken breast topped with a parmesan cream sauce, slow roasted pork tenderloin with mushrooms, baby red potatoes with herbed butter and fresh parsley, seared balsamic glazed carrots and fresh vegetable salad with broccoli, cauliflower and assorted cheeses.
Entertainment during the dinner will be provided by the Whispering Pines Band.
After dinner the "USO" show will be held in the Main Gallery. Emcee and special guest for the evening will be Lynn Roberts, performing as Bob Hope. Other entertainment will include Kurt Hoesly's a cappella singing group, Impromptu. The evening will also include the annual report from executive director, Lina Belar, and a preview of upcoming events for both museums.
After the show there will be dancing in the 'canteen' until 11 p.m. Drinks will be served by the East Otter Tail Historical Society.
Tickets for the event are $15 per person and can be reserved by calling 218-346-7676 or 218-346-7678 or by e-mail: email@example.com.
