Assistant fire chief Terry Long said he does not know who owns the home, but was told it had been recently occupied.

The fire destroyed an addition to the wood shingle home and caused extensive damage to the interior.

The state fire marshal was on the scene Tuesday morning and called firefighters back.

"It had rekindled along the roof line," Long said.

In all, 22 firefighters responded. The home appeared to be occupied; personal possessions were scorched throughout the house and children's toys were in the yard.

The home is located at 10959 170th Street.

Long said the fire had vented through the roof when firefighters initially arrived on the scene.

"The addition was engulfed," he said.

Long said he does not know the cause of the fire but the fire marshal believes the blaze started outside the home. An out-building or shed was nearly burned to the ground behind the home.

"We've sure had a slug of 'em," Long said of the fire calls the department has been on just this month.

"Somebody told me we'd either had 12 in 10 days or 10 in 12 days. I can't remember."
