Vehicle collision kills one, injures one in Walsh County
An 84-year-old Lankin, N.D., woman was killed and a 70-year-old Grafton, N.D., man injured in a head-on collision Thursday afternoon on N.D. Highway 17 in Walsh County, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release.
Their names are being withheld until relatives are notified.
The woman was the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Impala traveling west about 7 miles west of Grafton. The patrol said she was attempting to pass another vehicle when she struck a 2003 GMC pickup driven by the man in the eastbound lane.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and airbags in both vehicles deployed, the patrol said. Both vehicles were totaled.
The patrol said traffic speeds were reduced at the time of the crash because of heavy rain and poor visibility.
