Vera E. "Sis" Brooker, 95, of Vergas, died January 19, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center.
Vera E. "Sis" Chaffee, daughter of Clifford D. and Emma (Harthun) Chaffee, was born July 31, 1913 in Vergas, where she attended school. She graduated from Frazee High School in 1930. Vera then attended St. John's Hospital Nursing School in St. Paul, graduating in 1933. She worked briefly as a hospital nurse and on June 25, 1936, married Andrew F. "Brook" Brooker. The couple lived in St. Paul from 1936 to 1938. In 1938, they moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, where they had several businesses.
After retirement, they made their home in Sarasota, Fla., and spent summers at their cottage on Rose Lake, near Vergas. Brook passed away Oct. 23, 1975. Sis lived for a time at Briarwood in Perham, and later moved to the Vergas Assisted Living and then, the Frazee Care Center.
Surviving Sis are her son, Andrew (Louise) Brooker, M.D., of Amarillo, Texas, and one granddaughter.
Graveside services are scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday, June 6, at the Vergas Village Cemetery in Vergas. Arrangements are being provided by the Furey Funeral Home in Vergas.
