Vergas man gets prison time for shooting man

A Vergas man has been convicted and sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

Jack Thomas Nelson, 19, of 29319 415th St., Vergas, was ordered to serve 36 months (three years) in prison, with credit for 191 days served, and must also pay $210 in court fines and fees plus almost $9,600 in restitution for damages.

Nelson was accused of shooting a man in the left knee at a rural Detroit Lakes residence on Nov. 6, 2012, with a .22-caliber handgun.
