Verna E. Watson, 67, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Frazee Care Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Jillene Galletin officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. There will be a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation continues one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Verna Evelyn Watson was born to William and Abbie Hennen on August 16, 1944 in Moose Lake, Minn. She graduated from Willow River (Minn.) High School in 1962 and took her nurses training at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Duluth. She worked as a nurse in Duluth and at Shady Lane Rest Home in Wadena prior to moving to Detroit Lakes in 1977.
She worked as a nurse at the Frazee Care Center from 1977 to 2001, when ill health forced her retirement. Verna was united in marriage to Richard Watson in 1991 in Watertown, S.D. She entered the Frazee Care Center in August 2011.
Verna treasured time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening in her flower garden.
Survivors include her husband Richard, of Detroit Lakes; children, Chris (Ann) of Detroit Lakes, Angie (Charlie) Hanson of Horace, N.D., Adam of Detroit Lakes and Kevin of Minneapolis, stepchildren, Mark Watson of Fergus Falls and Barbara Jenson of Alexandria; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn (Raymond) Haaker of Duluth and Karen Riebe of Cumberland, Wis.
Preceding her in death were a son; a brother, Harvey; and a sister, Dorothy.
