Verne N. Jensen, 90, of Santa Barbara, Calif., died peacefully in his home on Saturday, January 23, 2010, surrounded by his wife and family.
Verne Norvel Jensen was born the oldest son of Clarence and May (Gladen) Jensen on December 23, 1919 in Rochert. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Marian Louise Bussell in 1943. He owned and operated the Jenol's Paving Company in Minneapolis, and was employed by the International Union of Operating Engineers in the Santa Barbara area.
Verne had a keen sense of humor, enjoyed reading, jokes, politics, gardening, working on cars, traveling, camping and playing the stock markets. He was self-studied on any number of subjects, especially nutrition, and enjoyed his retirement years, which allowed him to continue to be industrious. Verne was a devoted husband and father who will be missed by his wife and family.
Surviving Verne are his wife, Marian; three daughters, Margaret (Gilles) Plantinga of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada, Connie (Jim) Zawacki of Silver City, N.M., and Christine Jensen of Beaverton, Ore.; one son, Eric (Barbara) Jensen of Troutdale, Ore.; three sisters, Penny (Bud) Barnick of Fort Worth, Texas, Maxine Jensen of Hawley and Faith Jenson of Baton Rouge, La.; six grandchildren, Ria (Plantinga) Kennedy of Key West, Fla., Henry Plantinga of Peace River, Alberta, Dennis Plantinga of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Kristin Jensen and Erik Jensen of Troutdale, Ore., Laila Wahedi and Ed Wahedi of Beaverton; two great grandchildren, Khia Kruschal of Kelowna, British Columbia and River Jensen of Troutdale; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
