Former Detroit Lakes resident Vernie M. Taylor, 80, of Milaca, Minn., died on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Elim Home in Milaca.
Vernie May Beto was born to Frank and Lontina (Nelson) Beto on May 31, 1929 in Cushing, Minn. She started her education in a country school near Cushing, and later attended school in Little Falls, where she graduated from high school.
Vernie married Willard "Bill" Taylor on Sept. 3, 1947 in Little Falls. The couple resided in Little Falls, Waubun and Detroit Lakes during their marriage.
Vernie moved to the Elim Home in April 2009. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, knitting, crossword puzzles and reading.
Surviving Vernie are her daughter, Susan Anderson of Milaca; son Lorence "Larry" (Elaine) Taylor of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Nipper of Cross Lake, Minn., and Tina (Gene) Packer of McGregor, Minn.; and two brothers, Chester (Zelda) Beto of Minnetonka, Minn., and Frank Beto of Little Falls.
Preceding Vernie in death were her parents; husband, Bill; three sisters, Ruth, Myrtle and Elise; and two brothers, Elmer and Leslie.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the Peterson Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca, with the Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services.
Interment will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
