Vernon C. Quiram, 75, of Frazee, died Monday, August 10, 2009, at St. Mary's Innovis Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Vernon Carl Quiram was the first son born to Carl and Hazel (Lillis) Quiram on July 1, 1934 in Dead Lake Township, Minn. He was raised on a farm in the Dent-Richville area. On July 21, 1934, Vern was baptized and then confirmed on May 16, 1948, both in Dent. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1955 to January 1958, doing a tour of duty in the Baffine Islands and Yuma, Ariz.
Vernon married Diane Braith on June 2, 1962 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena. Following their marriage, Vern and Diane worked and lived in the Twin Cities, where they began their family of three children. They soon moved to Frazee, where they made their permanent home, and Vern began his 38-year career driving for Daggett Truck Lines. After retiring, not being one to sit idle long, he went to work part-time for the local bait shop.
Vern was an avid reader, with Louis L'Amour being one of his favorite authors. He enjoyed watching "Wheel of Fortune," "Price Is Right" and various sports on television. He was an exceptional outdoorsman and brought home many trophy fish and game throughout the years.
Vern's pride and joy were his three children and five grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; three children, Vernon John Quiram (Karen Thiele) of Sleepy Eye, Minn., Vance Quiram (Leslie Munnell) of Detroit Lakes and Vicky (Craig) Haraldson of Elbow Lake, Minn.; five grandchildren; four brothers, Ray (Florence) Quiram of Berlin, N.H., Bill (Jean) Quiram of Otter Tail, Minn., Larry Quiram of Lexington, Minn., and Donald Quiram of Blaine, Minn.; five sisters, Carlys Quiram of Richville, Vonnie (Joe) Heifort of Lexington, Faye (Bill) Luedtke of Fergus Falls, JoAnne (Thom) Murphy of St. Michael, Minn., and Kathy Anderson of Richville; sister-in-law, Julie Quiram of New York Mills; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Vern in death were his parents, Carl and Hazel; brother, Leslie Quiram; and sister, Janice Dorsch.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 15, at at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with the Rev. Ilango officiating. The Furey Funeral Home in Frazee provided arrangements.
