VFW essay winners awarded
Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen winners have been selected and recognized.
The Voice of Democracy’s theme was “Why I’m Optimistic about our Nation’s Future.” First place winner was Cheyann Vareberg, daughter of Lynn Hendrich, and she received $100.
Second place winner was Anna Schumacher, daughter of Steve and Allison Schumacher, and she received $75.
Third place winner was Cole Hegg, son of Justin and Monessa Hegg, and he received $50.
The Voice of Democracy program is open to all students in grades 9-12 and homeschoolers as well.
The Patriot’s Pen theme was “What Patriotism Means to Me.”
Holy Rosary winners included grade seven: first place, Wade Singer for $50; second place, Matthew Nelmark for $35; third place, Hunter Hagen for $25. Grade six winners: first place, Bella Steffl for $50; second place, Greta Nelson for $35; third place, Mari Bellefeulle for $25.
Middle school winners include: first place, Taylor Prussia for $50; second place, Eric Hamilton for $35; third place, Brina Smith for $25.
These programs are the Veterans of Foreign Wars premier scholarship program. Awards were presented to the students in December at a buffet supper held in the VFW Post Home.
