Strong offensive line play allowed the Vikings to pick up 300 yards on the ground, led by Taylor Budke with 190 yards and two touchdowns.

Pelican Rapids set the tone early with a strong drive only to have it end deep in Wolverine territory with fumble.

After trading punts Pelican Rapids again went to work.

This time they were able to punch it into the end zone with a Budke one-yard touchdown run.

Pelican Rapids had a key fourth down conversion on the drive when Jed Evenson picked up 12 yards up the middle.

W-DC answered with a strong drive, set up by a 52-yard run by Josh Sherman.

The Wolverines eventually got on the board with a six-yard run by Jacob Wegscheid.

The extra point kick was blocked by Casey Bruggeman, preserving a one-point lead for the Vikings.

Pelican came right back getting on the board with just seconds remaining in the first half.

Budke again got into the end zone for Pelican Rapids on a six-yard run.

Luke Halbakken had a big catch on the drive to pick up 22 yards on a pass from Bruggeman.

With the second extra point kick of the game by Cris Molina, Pelican Rapids went into halftime with a 14-6 lead.

"I thought the score just before the half really gave us a big lift in momentum," said Pelican Rapids head coach Dave Haugen.

The second half found Pelican Rapids continuing to do a good job on the ground, but unable to get past the pylons.

Molina was good on two field goal attempts to give the Vikings a little bit of an edge.

His two field goals were good from 22 and 28 yards.

"Having Cris come through on both field goal attempts was huge for us to be able to get some points on the board," Haugen added.

Defensively, Halbakken played a strong game with several tackles from his outside linebacker position, with some of them being tackles for loss at real critical times in the game.

Cody Wahlstrom also came up big including a 4th quarter interception.

With the win, Pelican Rapids improves their record to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Heart O'Lakes Conference.

Next week the Vikings will celebrate homecoming with a game against a very good Warroad team (1-2), starting at 7 p.m.
