Pianist Lorie Line performs a special Father's Day concert today (Sunday) at Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre, starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Holmes Theatre Box Office for $38. The 140th annual White Earth Reservation Celebration and Pow Pow concludes today in White Earth. Sunday festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a flag raising ceremony, and the grand entry will take place at 1 and 7 p.m.

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts the program "Dragonfly Dreams and Butterfly Kisses" today at 2 p.m. Join local favorite John Weber for an intriguing look into the secret world of dragonflies and butterflies. The Fort Bend Boys Choir of Texas will perform a free concert at Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre on Monday, June 16 at 7 p.m., featuring "the best of the best" by Bach, Mozart and Franck, as well as spirituals and special Texas pieces. The choir was organized to give boys with special musical abilities and interests an opportunity to perform more challenging choral literature from classical selections to folk music. Becker County 4-H sponsors a Woodsie's Wonders 4-H youth camp from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 16 in the Becker County Extension Office. Follow Woodsie the Owl on an adventure that will include discovering what owls eat and noises heard and tracks seen in nature. 4-H membership not required. The DL Library offers a Beginning Computer class from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 17. Learn the main parts and functions of a computer and how to use the mouse. No experience necessary. Individual Computer Tutoring also meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. by appointment only. All group classes are limited to six people. Call 847-2168 to pre-register.

The Tuesdays in the Park summer concert series continues this week at the Detroit Lakes City Park Bandshell, with an appearance by Vincent & The Van Goes at 7 p.m. There will be free, live music every Tuesday through the months of June, July and August -- with the exception of July 15. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be moved from the bandshell to the DL Pavilion. Becker County 4-H sponsors a beginner's workshop on digital photography from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 in the Becker County Extension Office. Youth who have completed grades 4 and up are welcome to attend. Bring your digital camera if you have one -- we will have camera's available if you don't have your own. Perham's summer celebration, Turtle Fest, begins Wednesday, June 18 and continues through Sunday, June 22. Inspired by the community's annual summer turtle races (which continue daily throughout the event), the festival includes a Friday night parade at 7 p.m., followed by a Jaycees street dance downtown. Saturday's festivities will include a road race, car show and kids' pedal tractor pull, followed by fireworks on the beach, while Sunday's lineup includes the conclusion of the Legion Baseball Tournament and a Rotary Club breakfast. Hawgs 4 Dawgs, a motorcycle ride to raise money for the Humane Society of the Lakes, will take place on Saturday, June 21. Registration for the ride will take place from 10 a.m. until noon at Zorbaz on West Lake Drive in Detroit Lakes, and bikers will depart from there at noon.

From there, riders will make stops at Charlie's Bar in Height of Land, Billy's Bar in Vergas, the Cormorant Inn in Cormorant Village, Pit 611 in Lake Center and Izzo's in Detroit Lakes. The ride will finish at The Sandbar in Detroit Lakes. Door prizes and drawings will take place at each stop, including Zorbaz merchandise, an overnight package from Shooting Star Casino, biking goggles, an American flag, and a biker hat and purse, among others. Registration is $25 per couple, and $15 for a single ticket. The first 125 registrants will receive a free Hawgs 4 Dawgs (H4D) bandanna. The Lake Region Arts Council has announced that it will be presenting three new exhibits in the LRAC Gallery through January 2009. The themes of the new exhibits are: "Rural Scenes," now through July 11; "Abstract Art," July 14-Oct. 11; "Female Form in Art," Oct. 13-Jan. 10, 2009. All exhibits are juried and open to visual artists of all disciplines.

On May 1, 1960, Captain Francis Gary Powers was shot down over the Soviet Union while piloting his U2 spy plane sparking one of the most famous international incidents of the Cold War. The latest exhibit at the In Their Own Words (ITOW) Veterans Museum, "Top Secret," which opened May 1 and continues through Oct. 31, includes photographs and artifacts from the Cold War Museum about the U-2 Incident. The Cormorant Area Art Club will hold its 11th Annual Art Show Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The event will be held at the Cormorant Community Center located in Cormorant Village, 13 miles south of Lake Park and 1.5 miles north of Zorbaz on Pelican Lake. Twenty-five regional artists will display a wide variety of watercolors, acrylic and oil paintings, rosemaling, pine needle basketry, prints, cards and art gift items. There is no admission charge.
