Virgil William "Bud" Mueller, 91, Perham, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, in MeritCare, Fargo, N.D.

Virgil W. "Bud" Mueller was born May 30, 1916, in Park Rapids to William and Marta (Josephson) Mueller. He graduated from Park Rapids High School before entering the Army National Guard in 1940. Bud served with the MN National Guard for 13 years. His unit of the National Guard was mobilized in 1940 to the U.S. Army and sent to California. He then served overseas during WWII in Belgium and Germany, where his unit met the Russian Army at the Elbe River. He was discharged in 1946. During his service years he had been stationed in Riverside, Calif., and that is where Bud and Allene McGrane were united in marriage on July 2, 1944, in the St. Francis DeSalles Catholic Church. Bud was employed by the Minnesota DNR in various locations, including Brainerd, Bagley, Baudette and finally Perham, where he continued working for the Forestry Service until 1978, when he retired at the age of 62.

Bud is survived by his wife, Allene, Perham; four children, Daniel (Cathy) Mueller, Ottertail, Gregory (Corinne) Mueller, Detroit Lakes, Debra (John) Babcock, Sartell, and Marie (James) Bracey, Winchester, England; sister, Lamae Vaegmast, Greeley, Colo.; brother, Donald (Margo) Mueller, New Brighton, and seven grandchildren.

Preceding Bud in death are his parents, and a sister, Ardelle Reynolds.

Funeral services were today (Wednesday, Feb. 27) in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham, with Pastor Carl Noble officiating.

Burial is in St. Henry's Catholic Cemetery, Perham.
