Feb. 20, 1925-Feb. 26, 2009
Vivian Rohr, 84, of Bluffton, Minn., passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, after a brief illness.
Vivian Marie Palmer was born the first child of Fred and Francis (Ulschmid) Palmer on Feb. 20, 1925, in Frazee. She grew up on the family dairy farm and graduated from Frazee High School with the class of 1942.
Vivian married Norbert Rohr of Detroit Lakes on Oct. 16, 1945. In 1956, Norbert and Vivian moved their family from Frazee to a dairy farm they purchased near Bluffton. Vivian played an active part in the farm and for several years had a weekly route in Wadena, delivering the fresh eggs her hens produced, and became known to some as "the egg lady." She was in charge of publicity for the Ottertail County National Farmers Organization (NFO) and, along with Norbert, was active in the organization at the county and state level throughout their farming and retirement years.
Vivian attended St. John the Baptist Church and served as an officer in the Christian Mothers for many years. She helped start and organize the Bluffton Blazers 4-H Club and served as a parent leader. Vivian volunteered in Bluffton Township on election nights and campaigned for candidates in the Democratic Farmer-Laborer Party. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, reading, gardening, sewing, animals, traveling, and church events.
Norbert passed away in Fargo on Feb. 5, 2009, due to heart failure.
Vivian's sunny, positive outlook, kind deeds and words, warmth and caring will be especially missed by her eight children: John (Toni) Rohr of Indianapolis, Ind., Dan (Kim) Rohr of Northfield, Minn., Nick (Lorna) Rohr of New York Mills, Nancy (Tom) Hendrickx of Butler, Minn., Mark (Carol) Rohr of Bluffton, Mary (Steve) Brand of Ellsworth, Wis., Janelle Rohr of West St. Paul and Kathy Rohr of Bluffton; sisters, Betty Frank of Mankato, Minn., Dorothy (Paul) Roes of Butler, Marion (Eugene) Stoll of Dent, her brother Rodger (Elaine) Palmer of Frazee, and her sisters-in-law, Winifred Jenson of Detroit Lakes and Sandy Palmer of Duluth, Minn.; 22 grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
