Volunteers needed for AIS inspections
Becker County is looking for volunteers to inspect watercraft for invasive aquatic species this summer.
Interested in volunteering for the County’s Aquatic Invasive Species inspection/education program for the upcoming lake season?
Volunteers are needed for inspection stations at Bad Medicine, Big Floyd, Cotton, Big Cormorant, Sallie and Melissa.
Becker County’s administrative office is gathering information. Call 218-846-7201 if you can volunteer to inspect watercraft entering area lakes this summer. Please leave your name, phone number and days interested in volunteering.
The county is working with the Department of Natural Resources to train interested volunteers.
Sandy Gunderson will conduct this season’s AIS education efforts.
Gunderson also heads up the county’s recycling education programs. Groups interested in scheduling AIS education training should call 218-846-7201.
County officials are also working with the DNR on AIS enforcement issues. The sheriff’s department has been trained on AIS enforcement and will, along with
the department’s auxiliary, conduct random AIS inspections and enforcement this summer.
Responses to the county’s RFQ, soliciting an AIS coordinator, are due April 19.
