The Graystone was built before the Holmes Block, so the Holmes Block was built tall enough to accommodate an opera hall on the second floor. The two have suffered through fires and rebuilds, and were restored thanks to a refurbishment by Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation, which now has an office in the building.
