Walker man charged in Moorhead assault
MOORHEAD -- A 30-year-old Walker man faces felony charges for an assault in Moorhead over the weekend.
Nathan Allan Butcher of Walker appeared in Clay County District Court on Monday for charges of simple robbery and third-degree assault, both felonies, and fifth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
A woman who was at a Wells Fargo ATM in Moorhead called police Saturday night after she saw two men fighting near the intersection of Seventh Street and First Avenue North, court records say.
The woman told police she saw one man fall to the ground before the other man kicked him several times.
The man walked away from the victim, but returned and kicked him numerous times in the face and head, the woman told police.
Police identified the victim as 44-year-old Norman Cloud, no permanent address.
Cloud told police he and Butcher were drinking together Saturday night and stopped at Memorial Park in Moorhead, court records say.
Cloud said he didn't remember anything after drinking with Butcher. He told police he was missing an iPod touch and a cell phone.
Butcher had an iPod matching the description and the same cell phone in his possession when he was booked into the Clay County Jail, court records say.
Police said Cloud had significant injuries to his face.
Butcher was being held in the Clay County Jail on $10,000 cash or bond.
