A Walker man faces three felonies in connection with the death of his ATV passenger May 1 in the Paul Bunyan State Forest.

Chad Robert Tabaka, 31, is charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and Third Degree DWI in the death of Jessica Lynn Christopherson, 31, of Cass Lake.

According to the criminal complaint, Tabaka was legally drunk when his ATV, traveling between 50 and 55 mph, lost control, went sideways into a ditch and collided with a tree on East Steamboat Forest Road.

The deputy responding determined "if he went faster than 20 to 25 mph on the Forest Road his patrol unit would fishtail due to roadway conditions."

Christopherson died at the scene of multiple traumatic injuries.

Tabaka has one prior DWI in the past 10 years and a traffic record that includes 20 traffic and liquor-related violations since 1997.

Sheriff Frank Homer said he was driving with a valid driver's license at the time of the crash.

Tabaka will be arraigned Monday in Hubbard County District Court,

The homicide charges each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years and/or a $20,000 fine upon conviction. The DWI is punishable by a maximum of 1 year and/or a $3,000 fine.
