The Wall convoy at Detroit Lakes Pavilion Aug. 20
"The Wall," a tribute to veterans, will be in Detroit Lakes at the Pavilion on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
From noon to 6 p.m., the convoy starts, with escorting meeting in West Fargo at the VFW Club. The convoy will proceed to Hawley to meet with Legion and VFW members and the community. Similar stops will be in Lake Park, Detroit Lakes, Callaway, Ogema, Waubun and to the Shooting Star Casino parking lot.
At 6 p.m., there will be a blessing ceremony by George "Joe Bush" Fairbanks, followed by a welcoming invocation by Erma Vizenor at 6:15 and a welcoming reception with hors devours in the Shooting Star at 6:30.
On Thursday, Aug. 21, the assembly of the Wall is at 7 a.m. A blessing ceremony is at noon and the Wall will be up for viewing and posting of the Colors. From 1-7 p.m., the laying of POW/MIA and GOLDSTAR mother's wreath and viewing of the Wall. At 7 p.m., TAPS and retrieving Colors will take place.
Friday, Aug. 22, a blessing and posting of the Colors is at 9 a.m., followed by opening speakers at 10, viewing of the Wall from noon to 7 p.m. and retrieving of the Colors at 7.
Saturday, Aug. 23, begins with a parade starting at downtown Mahnomen ending at the Shooting Star Casino from 10 a.m. to noon. From noon to 2 p.m., was the posting of the Colors and the Patriot Guards Ride of Honor. At 1 p.m., there will be a military fly over, followed by speakers from 1:15 to 2, a pow-wow at the Mahnomen County Fair Grounds from 2 to dusk, retrieving of the Colors at 8, and evening music by Bluegrass Brother's Band at 8:15.
On Sunday, Aug. 24, blessing ceremony begins at 9 a.m. with posting of the Colors, followed by a church service provided by the White Earth Honor Guard Veteran Robert Roy and various pastors from the area from 1 to 2 p.m. The final viewing of the Wall is from 2 to 8 p.m., and the closing and retrieving of the Colors is at 8. A farewell sinner for all veterans, volunteers, sponsors and community begins at 8:15.
