Former Frazee resident Walter C. Damlo, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died peacefully at his residence on Monday, August 31, 2009, under the care of Hospice.
Walter Clarence Damlo was born to Christ and Martha (Bockhaus) Damlo on Jan. 5, 1918 in Gorman Township, Minn. He grew up in Dora Township, Minn., and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham.
On Aug. 1, 1943, Walt married Elfrieda Gorentz at St. Paul's Lutheran Loon Lake Church. In 1947, they moved to Frazee. Walt farmed until 1993, when he and Elfrieda sold the farm and moved to Detroit Lakes. He served for several years on the Silver Leaf Township Board as well as the church council at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee.
Surviving Walt are his wife, Elfrieda; his son, Tom Damlo; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Walter in death were his parents, Christ and Martha Damlo; his sister, Blondina Fehlauer; and his brothers, Adelbert, Herbert, Frederick, Lambert and Marvin.
Visitation for Walt is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, with the Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiating. Burial will be at the Gorman Township Cemetery.
