The city of Detroit Lakes will be blocking off some city streets for the Parade of the Northwest on Sunday, July 20, which may impact traffic flow south of Highway 10 through the city.

Highway 10 mainline

Crews are finishing up concrete paving. Curb placement is scheduled to begin toward the end of the week.

There is no eastbound left turn at County Highway 54 off Highway 10, and motorists are directed to use Kris Street and Randolph Road to access County Highway 54 from the west. The work around the County Highway 54 intersection will take approximately two weeks.

Signal installation continues this week at Kris Street.

Old Highway 10 (Frazee Street)

Crews continue to work on the south lanes of old Highway 10 between McKinley Avenue and Jackson Avenue this week. Two-lane, two-way traffic is being maintained through this area. This work is scheduled to last approximately three more weeks.

Old Highway 10 is closed between Washington Avenue and Holmes Street. Westbound traffic must turn left at Holmes Street to access downtown businesses, turn right to access Burger Time or continue straight to access Floral Impressions.

Old Highway 10 is closed between Jackson Avenue and SuLaine's Antique Mall. Motorists should follow the signed detour.

Frontage road

Crews are reconstructing a new frontage road between Jackson Avenue and East Shore Drive. Grading and storm sewer installation continue this week. Crews will begin placing gravel toward the end of the week.

Access to frontage road businesses will be maintained at all times using either old Highway 10 or the existing frontage road. Highway 10 traffic can access these frontage road businesses at Corbett Road and North Shore Drive.

The frontage road between North Shore Drive and East Shore Drive is closed for approximately eight weeks. During this time crews will reconstruct the boat landing and overlook area, build two retaining walls between the frontage road and Big Detroit Lake, work on the new bike trail and construct the East Shore Drive/frontage road intersection. Motorists should use Highway 10 to get around the Big Detroit Lake.

Highway 59 bridge

Motorists should watch for temporary outside lane closures as crews continue to paint the bridge this week.

Washington Avenue

Washington Avenue south of Highway 10 to Front Street will close Monday, July 21, for approximately two weeks as crews begin work to reconstruct the south side of the Washington Avenue intersection. Traffic will encounter a three-way stop at that intersection for eastbound and westbound Highway 10 traffic, and northbound Washington Avenue traffic. Crews will remove pavement and install sewer and water this week, followed by storm sewer installation, grading, gravel placement and concrete paving. Signal installation will also begin this week.

Lake Avenue south of Highway 10 will reopen on gravel on Monday to retain southbound access off of Highway 10 in that area.

The Depot Park 'n Ride is closed.

Roosevelt Avenue

Roosevelt Avenue south of old Highway 10 (to Park Street) is closed. Motorists have a three-way stop at the intersection. Traffic is being redirected to McKinley Avenue and Park Street. Motorists should follow the signed detour. Grading and gravel placement are scheduled for that area this week, and crews will begin signal installation.

The Roosevelt Avenue underpass (north of old Highway 10 to Randolph Road) will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week for mid-span beam painting. Motorists should follow the signed detour.

Kris Street

There is a lane closure and stop sign condition for all turning motorists entering or exiting Kris Street. Traffic signals are installed but not operational to allow BNSF crews to finish the installation of a 6,000-foot railroad crossing preemption system. BNSF crews are installing the quad-four gate system at the Kris Street railroad crossing. BNSF has estimated this work will be completed by the end of the month.

The next Highway 10 project update/public meeting for this construction season will be held Monday, Aug. 11, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes City Hall.
