Water Carnival Legion Classic opens Thursday in Detroit Lakes
With Sunday's game in Fargo cancelled, the Detroit Lakes American Legion Post 15 baseball team should be well-rested and ready to defend its home turf in the 13th Annual Northwest Water Carnival Legion Baseball Classic, which gets underway Thursday at DL's Washington Ballpark.
"My anticipation for this weekend is that we play well, get all the guys into the game at their own tournament, and hopefully win a couple of games," said Post 15 head coach Keith Blattenbauer.
The tournament, which runs Thursday through Sunday, July 12-15, will be played in round-robin format.
Detroit Lakes will take on visiting teams from East Grand Forks, St. Paul Park and familiar NWC tournament opponents West Fargo, Mankato and Aberdeen, S.D.
Games will be played continuously from 1 to 10 p.m. daily.
DL will face East Grand Forks and Aberdeen on Thursday, July 12, at 5:30 and 8 p.m., respectively.
Post 15 gets the day off on Friday, then plays another double header on Saturday, taking on St. Paul Park at 2 p.m. and Mankato at 7 p.m.
Post 15's final game of the tournament will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, against West Fargo.
The round-robin format ensures that all six participating teams will play each other once during the tournament.
The team claiming the best overall record will take home the tournament trophy.
If there is a tie, the team with the better head-to-head record will be declared the outright winner, Blattenbauer said.
No makeup game in Fargo has been scheduled, he added.
