Waubun Football - Bombers' Kologi scores a pair of late touchdowns for victory
Two fourth-quarter touchdowns by the visiting Waubun Bombers, was enough to secure a 28-17 victory over Park Christian Friday.
Waubun senior running back Cody Kologi rushed for end zone scores of 10 and 34 runs in the final quarter, to erase a 17-14 deficit to the Falcons (2-3), as the Bombers improve to 4-1 on the season.
"I feel it was a good win," said Waubun head coach Paul Clark. "They are a tough matchup for us. We persevered and came out with the win. It was big because they are a section team and we inched closer to a home playoff game."
The Falcons employed a spread out offense, as Park Christian quarterback Simeon Reiswig went 22-35 for 198 yards and two touchdowns.
But the Bombers scored first on junior running back Alex Teiken's big 45-yard run.
"The first score got us overconfident, I think," Clark said. "Offensively, we went down like clockwork, getting eight to nine yards a carry, before Alec broke his long one.
"The rest of the half, we were very sloppy on offense."
The Falcons pulled to within one at 8-7 (after Kologi added the two-point conversion run after Teiken's TD) on a Reiswig eight-yard pass to Duncan Hannestad.
"We were very lucky to be up 8-7 at halftime," Clark included.
But Teiken hit another big run, this one a 28-yard TD scamper, to tie the game 14-14, after the Falcons scored first in the third quarter on a Reiswig TD pass to David Tompkins.
Josh Heinen added a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter to give Park Christian a 17-14, before Kologi's two key touchdown runs in the final quarter.
The Bombers maintained a good ball-control offense, with Teiken rushing for 87 yards on seven carries and Kologi adding 83 on 10 carries.
Park Christian was led by Reiswig's 56 yards on the ground with 13 attempts.
"We knew going in, their strength was their speed and athleticism on offense," Clark said. "It took us almost three quarters to figure them out, but once we got the speed and we a few adjustments defensively, we did very well."
The Bombers will travel to Ulen-Hitterdal (1-4) to face the Trojans, starting at 7 p.m.
