Waubun man is charged with criminal sexual conduct involving minors
A Waubun man made his first appearance Friday in Becker County District Court on two felony counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct (victim under age 13).
James Linus Grandboise, 66, of 36647 County Highway 21, Waubun, is accused of touching the genital areas of two young girls at a Becker County residence on Sept. 25.
Grandboise had been invited to the residence for a get-together; the homeowner's two young daughters, ages 5 and 10, had been put to bed at around 7:30 p.m. The girls were sharing a bed.
According to the criminal complaint, the 10-year-old awoke to find the defendant reaching over her to pull down her younger sister's underwear and touch her genitals with his fingers. When she said she would tell her mom, the defendant reportedly said, "Shhhh... no," then tried to touch her in the same area; the girl slapped his hands away. She said the defendant then heard a noise and left the room.
A prescription pill, still in its packaging, was found next to the bed the next day, after the girl had reported the incident. The pill was identified as dyphenhydramine, which is a prescription allergy medication. No one who lived at the residence took that type of medication, which reportedly had been spotted in the defendant's pocket the night before.
Grandboise is currently in custody at the Becker County Jail awaiting his next court appearance, at a Dec. 31 Rule 8 hearing. His bail was set at $75,000 with conditions, or $150,000 without conditions.
