Waubun man gets five years on gun charge
A Waubun man was sentenced to 60 months in prison last week after being found guilty of a felony firearms violation following an August jury trial.
Barris Duane Guy, 27, of 2968 130th Ave., Waubun, was also ordered to pay $135 in court fines and fees from his prison earnings, and to supply a DNA sample. He was convicted by a Becker County jury on Aug. 7, for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
On Sept. 22, 2012, Guy and another man broke into a Detroit Lakes home with a handgun and attempted to steal the homeowners’ TV’s. The two fled without them, after a brief altercation with the owners in which the other man produced a handgun and threatened to shoot.
During an investigation into the burglary, the firearm used in the incident was discovered in Guy’s room. He is prohibited from possessing a firearm because of a 2008 conviction in Texas for criminal sexual conduct.
