Waubun man sent to jail on felony charge of domestic assault
Henry Ray Soyring, of 39718 400th Ave., Waubun has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony domestic assault.
According to court records, on Jan. 16 a tribal police officer was dispatched to Elbow Lake Village on the report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, the officer heard Soyring yelling and trying to kick in a door.
The woman told the officer they had been partners for a year and had a three-week-old child together.
Soyring had been drinking that day and started throwing her around, throwing her to the floor twice and trying to hold her arms and hit her while on the floor.
The whole family eventually went to a relative's house and she was able to get away.
On Jan. 26, District Judge Joe Evans sentenced him to 15 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years. He was ordered to serve 79 days in jail and given credit for 79 days served.
He was fined a total of $1,140 in fines and fees and was ordered to get a chemical use assessment and follow the treatment recommendations.
He must also complete anger management treatment. Only non-abusive phone contact will be allowed with the victim until anger management staff OKs further contact.
