The only son of Jewell and Amy Anderson, Wayne was born on June 27, 1936 in Barnesville. At age five, he moved with his parents to Detroit Lakes, where he attended public school and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1954. As a high school student, he played clarinet in the school band and also participated in the football and track programs and in Future Farmers of America.

Wayne later attended Minneapolis Business College, completing a Diploma Course in accounting in 1967. Due to ill health, he was not able to pursue his accounting interests. Wayne faced many health challenges during his life -- early-onset diabetes, heart problems, cancer -- but he did not complain and he coped in a cheerful manner.

Wayne lived and worked with his parents most of his adult life, assisting at their Summer Haven Resort on Cotton Lake for 28 summers. In winters, Wayne lived with Jewell and Amy in Florida and worked for Adams Packing Company, a fruit plant in Auberndale. In his spare time, he loved to hike, to read, and to learn about history.

Confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes on May 20, 1951, Wayne remained a member of that congregation throughout his life.

Wayne moved to Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes in 2008 and resided there until his most recent hospitalization.

He was preceded in death by his father Jewell (January 1989) and his mother Amy (March 2010). He will be missed by his extended family and many friends, who grieve the loss of his company but appreciate the peacefulness of his passing. He was a gentle man and departed as he lived -- in a gentle manner.

The family thanks the Emmanuel staff for the loving care they provided to Wayne during his residence in their community and the medical team at Innovis Hospital for its patient-centered care of Wayne in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chaplaincy Endowment at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes, or to a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held at the chapel of Emmanuel Community from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, with funeral services immediately following. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by West Kjos of Detroit Lakes. Those wanting to share memories and condolences may use the messages of sympathy section at www.westkjos.com.
