Former Detroit Lakes and Two Harbors resident Wayne G. Leopold, 88, of Crosby, Minn., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Wayne was born to Arthur and Emma Leopold on March 1, 1923 in Sanborn, Minn. He graduated from Sanborn High School. Wayne was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart while serving with the 99th infantry division in the European Theater.
Wayne earned an industrial education degree from University of Wisconsin-Stout, and taught industrial education for 42 years at Morgan and Two Harbors, Minn.
Surviving Wayne are his wife of 63 years, June (Zetterlund) Leopold; children, Susan (Wendell) Herman of Fargo, Mary (Stan) Nagorski of Crosby, Tom (Beth) Leopold of Lenexa, Kansas, and Dave (Jan) Leopold of Breckenridge, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and brother, LaMoine (Margerite) of Sanborn.
Funeral services are set for 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crosby, with visitation for two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, with arrangements provided by the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
