WCHA lifts moratorium on expansion; decision may make way for Bemidji State to join
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association is open for applications.
Today's vote to lift a 10-year moratorium on expansion was unanimous. It needed six votes to pass. All 10 league teams had a vote.
The vote came during the NCAA meetings in Washington, D.C.
Bemidji State, a member of the dying four-team College Hockey America conference, is expected to apply for admission. Gaining admission into the 10-team WCHA could determine the future of Division I hockey at Bemidji State.
Bemidji State could make presentations to the league in April during its annual meeting in Florida. In order to gain admission, it would need eight votes.
