WE Fest tickets sell out early
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

WE Fest organizers are in heaven -- the country music festival at Soo Pass Ranch has sold out of general admission tickets.

"The three-day tickets have for the first time sold out, which is incredible," said WE Fest President Jeff Krueger. "This lineup seems to have struck a key note with country music fans."

The festival is Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 3-5.

Thursday is Rascal Flatts, Martina McBride, Gary Allan and Terri Clark.

On Friday it's Brooks & Dunn, Big & Rich w/ Cowboy Troy, Sugarland, and Josh Gracin.

Saturday is Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Trisha Yearwood and Trent Tomlinson.

"It's the combination of all these acts together that makes it such a big show," Krueger said.

WE Fest has a DNR permit for up to 50,000 patrons, but that strains bathroom facilities, campsites and other infrastructure, so organizers won't sell that many tickets. They consider sold out to mean 46,500 to 47,000 fans, Krueger said.

"You always want to sell out -- it's one of our goals. It's a cool deal," Krueger said. "It makes you proud you did everything you could do to provide the resources to continue to grow the event."

There are about 65 three-day tickets left and about 200 campsites, Krueger said Monday.

Single-day tickets may be available, depending on how many complimentary ticket-holders show up each day. Call the box office in the late afternoon to see if tickets will be released for that evening's show, Krueger said.

There are a limited number of camp spaces remaining in the Hilltop and Valley campgrounds, but organizers expect to sell out of campsites, as well.

To better serve the general admission crowd in the concert bowl, WE Fest has a new tower with a 17-foot by 13-foot screen. The two Jumbo-tron screens by the stage will remain, as well.

WE Fest is also expanding its Walk of Fame. It has about 200 handprints of stars -- from Johnny Cash to Waylon Jennings to Roy Orbison -- and will add about 70 this year and the rest next year to its existing Walk of Fame.

"I think it's a very unique display," Krueger said.

WE Fest is also opening upper grandstand seating next year, featuring about 400 seats on each side of the stage.

Those who haven't already ordered camping vehicle and per-person camping tickets should order now. Box office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1-800-493-3378.

"We're planning a bigger, better show next year," Krueger said. "I think we'll have just as good or better a show next year as this year."
