WE man in court for assaulting girl

A White Earth man made his first appearance Monday in Becker County District Court on two counts of felony domestic assault.

Michael James Azure, 33, of 35851 County Road 133, White Earth, is accused of assaulting both a 13-year-old relative and her mother on Aug. 11.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl had been at Azure's home to pick up her belongings when he reportedly cornered her, began calling her derogatory names, then grabbed her and slammed her head against the door.

When another relative intervened, the girl reportedly ran back to her mother's home and said Azure had struck her in the face. Her mother then went to Azure's residence to confront him, and he allegedly shoved her to the ground, then proceeded to kick her in the side and buttocks when she threatened to call the police, according to the complaint.

Azure has two prior domestic assault convictions on his record, according to court records.

He is currently in custody at the Becker County Jail pending his next court appearance, at a Sept. 4 omnibus hearing. His bail was set at $15,000 with conditions, or $25,000 without conditions.
