RECREATION

• Lantern Lit Ski & Snowshoe Trek: 5:30 to 7 p.m., Itasca State Park. Come out and ski or snowshoe by the light of the moon, along the kerosene lantern lit route. Trail follows the Many Lakes Road (South Entrance). Marshmallows will be available for roasting around the fire. For added fun, bring along your s'mores fixings or hot dogs for cooking at the campfire. Dress according to the weather. Program is dependent on snow depth. In case of poor weather, event will be canceled. Itasca State Park does have snowshoes to rent. Sorry, but the park does not rent skis. Info: 218-266-2100.

• ULTRA Family Ride: 10 a.m., Holiday Inn, Detroit Lakes. A family-oriented, guided snowmobile ride hosted by United Lake Trail Riders Association. at the Holiday Inn in DL. All are welcome. Guides will lead riders to a deer camp north of Detroit Lakes where there will be a bonfire, hotdogs and hot and cold beverages furnished by ULTRA. Free admission.

• Dakota Muzzle Loaders Convention and Historical Trade Fair: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Ag Building, Red River Valley Fairgrounds, West Fargo. Displays and demonstrations of trades and crafts from the 1700s and 1800s; vendors will have historical items such as trade beads, blacksmithing, leather, clothing, muzzleloaders, beeswax candles and trade silver. RECREATION

• Family Cross Country Ski Trek: 2 to 3:30 p.m., Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. Senior Park Ranger Kelly Blackledge will lead participants on a two-mile ski tour of the Refuge, stopping along the way to provide information about the Refuge's winter wildlife. The tour will start near Pine Lake and follow a short loop by Tamarac Lake before heading back along the shoreline. Participants are asked to dress accordingly, and must provide their own skis.
